<- This is Steve!

 Name: Kaere (pronounced "kay-ear")
 Species: Anthropomorphic Wolf
 Age: 32 (in human years)
 Gender: Female
 Sex:  Female
 Bond:  Scintilla Rufasilex
Sponsorlings/Wards:  Damas'Sitawi, Saeva Soloculi, Lakotass, Steve the Thumb Draecko
Birthplace:  Sitheil Tirean, Daralain (the 6th planet in orbit around the star Thuban, located in the constellation Draco)
Current Residence:  Sitheil Tirean, Splintyr Laboratory/Research Sector
Appearance/Color/Markings:  Fur is mostly white with tan and gray splotches (merle). Eyes are blue. Wears spectacles that somehow stay balanced on her muzzle, though they tend to slip downwards.
Physical Description:  Kaere is tall and on the thin side, adding to her already legendary presence/status at Sitheil Tirean. Her fur is snow-white, with gray and tan patches on her hands, feet, tail, ears, and back. Her eyes are a piercing light blue, and many other residents have commented that she probably uses them as precision lasers in her labwork. She has taken well to leadership, and practically exudes confidence. Her posture is impeccable, although she sometimes can be seen with a pencil tucked behind one ear and disheveled fur from pulling an all-nighter at the lab.
 Height:  5'8"
Personality:  Kaere is, in a word, determined. She is also extremely loyal and faithful, be it to her friends or a project. Although she would never admit it, she has a strong mothering instinct towards the creatures she engineers and creates, and wants to see them succeed and be happy. She often comes across as pushy, brusque, or maybe as a bit of a... well... female canine, but at heart she is kind and wants only the best for others. She has a reputation for eccentricity, but that's probably just because she has this thing for magically fusing dragons with fruits and vegetables to make unholy hybrids.
Abilities:  »Kaere has a very commanding aura about her. When she wants something done, you know about it, and you will do it. Whether or not this is some sort of psychic will-domination type power or just Kaere's natural demeanor is still unknown. Researchers have been attempting to discover the truth of this matter for years, to no avail.

»Kaere has the ability to distort time in the immediate vicitiny around her. She uses this baffling power to either increase her performance speed or slow an area down, allowing her to work much more efficiently. This is how she somehow manages to accomplish 500 tasks in a single day and still have time to play tag with the dragonets. Using the ability does sap her energy, so she must be careful to sense her own limits and switch back to "normal time" when she senses that she is too drained to continue.
History/Backstory:  Kaere is, essentially, the heart and backbone of the Splintyr Sector. She is the one who keeps things running, she is the one who cares for the newborns and the sick and injured, and she is the one who takes care of all of the administrative details. And somehow inbetween all of these duties, she finds time to work in the labs, creating odd new modified Schattarneki and her bizarre fruit-dragon hybrids. She actually has quite a bit of free time, due to her unique temporal-dilation ability, and has always secretly wished for one of the hatchling Schattarneki to bond to her so she can have a companion to talk to and care for, but no Schattarneki have ever chosen her as a bondmate.

She was born to a large family of well-to-do woodworkers in Sitheil Tirean, but always stated that she would never find her niche in the family business, and she was correct. One of her older brothers joined the Pack Reserves, and when he brought home his tales of adventure and exploration, young Kaere was hooked.

Unfortunately, Lakota took one look at the spindly, rather bookish young wolf and refused to allow her to join the militant reserves, instead placing her in the Gate Management department. Kaere was miffed, but threw herself into her work and played a large role in helping Lakota rescue Bawaru, the Sou Aki Hou dragon from Wheig. When the advance scouts brought back the reports of Splintyr and its species' imminent destruction through mass genocide and human enslavement, Kaere practically threw herself at Lakota's feet, begging to be a part of the project to rescue as many of the planet's native dragons as possible. Lakota eyed the other wolf and said, "I'll do better than that... you'll be in charge of taking care of them, once they're here."

Kaere was ecstatic. She, herself, would be personally responsible for helping to save a species.

"And Kilara will be working with you," Lakota added.

Kaere's howls of protest could likely be heard several light-years away.

But in the end she agreed to head the project with the overeager Collie anthro's help, and the pair have been caring for the Splintyr Sector --and its Schattarneki dragons-- ever since.
Stories:  Lakota entered Kaere's lab without bothering to rap her claws against the smooth stone arch of the doorway. There were no doors in the Sitheil Tirean caverns; if someone wanted privacy, they were better off looking elsewhere for it.

Kaere glanced up from her table as the gold-and-black wolf approached. "Hey, Kota," she said, taking a welcomed opportunity to stretch her back. "What brings you here?"

Lakota raised her head, glancing over Kaere's shoulders at the items strewn across the worktable. Her eyes inventoried a ungainly pile of tools, several glass dishes that appeared to have odd glowing substances growing in them, and several dormant eggs that Kaere had not yet modified. "This," she said, flapping one black-furred paw at the table. "You need a break, Kaere. You've been working on your weirdo fruit-dragons for three weeks straight."

"They're not perfect yet," the white-furred wolf murmured, meeting Lakota's gaze. "Lanatus is barely a success."

"He walks, he talks, he's intelligent, and most importantly, he's happy," Lakota countered. She picked up an odd set of pliers from the table, and Kaere snatched them back, scowling slightly. "You don't have to finish them now," Lakota continued in a more reasonable tone. "We aren't going anywhere, and the Schattarneki still aren't comfortable enough to breed here. Shouldn't you be working on that?"

Kaere levelled a stare at Lakota. The two locked eyes for perhaps a full minute, only minor facial and ear movements dispelling the illusion of two statues. Then Kaere's ears flattened as she tried to push the full weight of her slight psychic ability onto the shorter black-and-yellow wolf.

Lakota reached out and thwapped Kaere's muzzle lightly with one hand. "Stop that," she said cheerfully. "You know your tricks don't work on me."

Kaere scowled blackly enough to kill a weak-hearted creature and, for the first time in her entire lifespan, submitted to someone else's will instead of the other way around. "Fine, a vacation," she grumbled. "But the lemons will rot on the tree before I can infuse them and make them into fruit-dragons."

"We'll buy some lemons from the market, then," Lakota replied, her cheer still in full force.

"Store-bought is never the same," Kaere mourned. "Where am I going, anyway?"

"I'm not sure yet," Lakota said. "But come on, I'll help you pack."
